Holy crap. I got caught on the Penrith train. Two guys started bashing passengers right in front of me. I couldn't get out. So scary. One man who tried to help got really hurt. I called the police. One of their friends is still on the train swearing loudly & is very drunk.

TW VAW: The police said they'd get the 3rd man at the next stop but who knows if they did. That safety wasn't the priority over schedule is appalling. But I was more overwhelmed as I thought about the two women & what it means to be around violent men. Unpredictability of it.

TW VAW: there are damaged men who think fighting other men is their only release. Then there are the women who try to calm them down. It's awful. And so I think of the 2 women & myself & others whose life is punctuated by violence even when we work hard to get away from it.

TW VAW: I'm okay, just shaken. Seeing the fight brought up memories, making me upset, angry and indignant, actually, because this should never be normal. No one ever helped us over my life. People turn away as if it's not their business. If you ever see violence, please help.

Hey
@TrainsInfo can you explain your policy in regards to the safety of passengers??? There should be standard procedures in place for dealing with violent/drunk idiots like this. Bottling up the public in a tin can with these people and simply shuffling it on is not a solution -
Hello Peter and Dr Zevallos. This is extremely concerning to hear and we're so sorry you had to experience this. We have proticols in place when safety is concerned, but without all the details, it would not be appropriate for us to comment on this specific situation via Social.

We’d strongly encourage you to lodge this with us in a formal manner by either visiting http://transportnsw.info/contact-us , or even calling 131 500 if you’d like to speak to someone in person (if you haven’t already of course) That way, we can provide the appropriate resources and have

a member of our organisation follow this up with you formally, whilst also liaising with any external agencies involved (e.g the police) Again, we’re really sorry that you had to experience this, and relieved to read that you’re OK albeit shaken.

If there’s anything else you need, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via any means you deem necessary.

Thank you for your rapid reply and for taking this seriously. Our society has harbored and accepted this kind of thuggish behavior for too long. It's time for change.

Thanks
@TrainsInfo I've submitted the form with the details of what happened. I hope this is taken seriously. Violence should never be permissible, and public safety should never be deprioritised over a train schedule. Appreciate you raising this@PeterCawdron -

@TrainsInfo I've just spoken to a member of train security and I'm appalled. He was dismissive. He said the staff member acted according to his training. I told him I'd witnessed an incident of violence & he was adding to my distress by minimising what happened. - 3 more replies
