Having a lawyer cry "due process" for a man arrested & charged for five crimes, including rape & drugging a 13 year old, is the epitome of rape culture. Polanski pled guilty to unlawful sex with a minor to reduce the sentence he faced & fled. "Due process"https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2018/05/roman-polanski-academy-appeal …

Ughhh. This only works if the Academy is above the law. I’ll bet lots of them think they are.

They expelled him (good!). Let's see if they have the backbone to stay unwavering. What infuriates me is that his legal team is fighting this so publicly when he won't face his original crime. To have a rich White man fight the decision of a professional society is scary.

Agreed. Also scary is for a professional society not to acknowledge the functions and decisions of the legal system.

They gave him an Oscar in 2003. Over 100 of the Academy's most famous members signed a letter in support of him in 2013. He committed his crimes in 1977. Members knew & defended what he did because his art and his evasion of the law are seen as more unjust than rape. Disgusting.
