Themes across the three stories focused on today's panel: 1/ contested identities. "No one has authority to tell you who you are. Only my community & my people can recognise me." Dr Liza-Mare Syron's story is about learning she is Aboriginal from her uncle, after her father died

2/ transcending shaming. Marlee Silva remembers the moment in her childhood when she realised she could try to "pass" as White or be recognised as Aboriginal. She chose to be proud of her culture. She read about her Aboriginal father who was in the audience. #GrowingUpAboriginal

3/ importance of family and kinship. @NatalieCromb's chapter in #GrowingUpAboriginal is about Sunday dinner and school holidays with her grandparents, fishing and playing on Country. Her Pop installed pride as well as a political awareness, encouraging her formal education.

This is what it looks like when I'm geeking out - beyond stoked to get a photo with Dr @AnitaHeiss at her book signing for #GrowingUpAboriginalinAustralia. 🤓pic.twitter.com/8nZ3Yalh50

I'm on the left looking like a massive geek, grinning from ear to ear; I'm wearing a colourful dress of yellow, red, white, blue animals and black lipstick. Dr Anita Heiss looks regal on the right wearing glasses and a large beautiful red necklace against her black tip.
