Why would you show his name on this thread, Mel? Is this really a story about kindness? Why do it this way?
#KindnessInScience should be personal stories of people helping others without expecting cookies.
Plus there is a long history of White people using POC as anecdotes.
It would still be poor form to do this with anyone, but especially bad given POC aren't just a story device to be shared with other White people. If it was really about helping get his name out there, don't centre yourself as kindness. You could have simply talked about his work.

Tone police? Are you serious, Mel? You're inferring I'm tone policing you by pointing out how you're reproducing race and power? Tone policing is a concept developed by WOC about how White people deflect to our use of language, to obscure our meaning & release them from blame.
