I'm flying to Brisbane to give a talk on diversity in science. Let me put this into perspective. I fly very often. While I ran our national science equity program, I travelled six months of the year, with an average of two flights weekly. I am stopped "randomly" EVERY TIME.
So: as far as equity & diversity in science goes - I can't even get to an equity event I'm speaking at without being made to feel suspect, reminded that my Australian status means less because I'm not White, & that fellow Aussies DELIGHT in humiliating us. #TravellingWhilePOC
