Or perhaps they could explain to me what it is about my posts that they clearly find offensive? I have an opinion. They don't agree. That's fine, but don't insult me without an explanation. That's no way to win hearts and minds.

Man, if a guy as smart as you doesn't have the self-awareness to understand how incredibly wrong you are, I'm not sure what hope there is for the rest of us. Hint: You are literally telling women to stop complaining about the system that is oppressing them.

No, no I'm not. They should complain. I have no problem with people highlighting injustices or spreading factual information that does the same. I was simply questioning the method. They can take it at face value or ignore it. No need for insults. #SameTeam

You say "no I'm not" but you literally told a woman she was doing womankind a "disservice" by complaining (or as you put it 'being negative'), and that she was alienating half the population in the process (untrue, just people like you). You're no ally, seriously.

Umm, ok, this progress. I apologise for implying that she should not complain. Looking at it like that I can see it could have been misunderstood. I'm sorry. My intention was to say the specifics of the method of complaining might not have the desired effect.

Wayne, I appreciate the apology (although it might have been more effective on my timeline!). Damian has hit the nail on the head - and if you are genuinely open to learning, please read this on tone policing https://medium.com/@chanda/what-s-the-harm-in-tone-policing-e933d90af247 …

I will also add one thing. I've been in this field a long time, and my experience is that pointing things out politely achieves *precisely zero*. #AstroSH and #MeToo have been effective because women have been public and loud, after years of trying to work "politely".

Hello everyone. Hope you had a strident day being strident. The Chief Scientist hates it when women in science talk about inequality because it detracts from "progress." 49% of undergrad STEMM students are women. Only 21% of senior professors of STEMM are women. #StridentWomen pic.twitter.com/orCs1j4cQE

He just came to my thread showing trends of women in STEMM (via your link here) to suggest "maybe we just need to wait" and things wil get better. Now I see he's tone policing & trolling women. "Just wait" indeed. 🤡
