I'm often told that I have a 'nice smile'. I wonder how related that is to the fact that I've found it really hard to be taken seriously in certain work environments.

Damned if you and don't. Try not smiling "enough." It's associated with perceived "coldness" among students who will mark women down in student evaluations- but not men.

Students always loved me and said I was a good one. But I did have manager who I felt did not take my technical skills seriously (and my ambitions, and my judgement) as they should have

Its good to see
#sociology research validating phenomena so many#WomeInStem have experienced. I've seen this one in action way too many times.
