4) Mars is an irradiated wasteland devoid of life. Musk doesn’t want to colonise it so that he can start some exclusive utopia there, he wants to do it because being a multi-planetary species would reduce the risk of complete human extinction in case of an unforseen catastrophe.

9) Even the knock-on effects of his attempts (eg: the glaringly obvious benefits of less pollution & cheap renewable power) will have a stronger +effect on economic inequality than (forgive me for the ad hominem Dr.Zevallos, but I feel it's relevant here) any sociology doctorate.

Colonialism was only a bit bad because of what happened to the indigenous populations. There is none on Mars. Forget everything and start over with better books. You're in an insane cult.

1) Your original tweet was mainly a critique of
@elonmusk as a rich white man with no understanding of colonialism or equality, who wishes to lead a space utopia, when he has never expressed any desires to do so.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

2) And while he obviously does want a future where Mars is a second home for humanity, he has never said or implied he’d be the grand architect of a martian society or it’s politics.

3) Now that we have (hopefully), done away with this misguided belief that Musk (as a rich white man who doesn’t understand equality) is going to impose his ignorant ideals on society and create inequality, what exactly is your problem with “space colonialism”?

5) Like an asteroid collision or a global pandemic or maybe even a malicious AI. To not carry all your eggs in one basket, seems like sound logic to me. And I don't have this opinion because I'm a rich white man (I'm neither.) with no understanding of colonialism and inequality.

6) His space business aside, the guy is also the prime mover behind one of the largest, tangible efforts to move away from fossil fuel cars & power (Tesla). He and his brother are are pursuing an indoor farming initiative to make healthy, sustainable food more abundant and cheap.

8) But does that really matter? When the end result is immense benefit and progress for us as a species, even if he does get rich in the process?

7) MAYBE it's all just driven by a desire for more wealth & status. (Tho blowing his Pay-Pal gains on a rocket & an electric car co., 2 HIGHLY impenetrable markets where financial ruin was the most likely outcome, isn't exactly the best strategy for someone purely after money.)
