There's SO MANY sad and angry people who feel very protective of the White male billionaire. A lonely White man has written a dozen rant tweets at about/me, to the ether. Who knew that rich White men who are constantly in the public eye need to be defended?

I have not. You don't understand how colonialism becomes established and how it is inherently linked to exploitation of labour and degradation of land. The effects of this are ongoing. Indigenous people continue to fight this around the world as do others committed to equity.

How do you imagine that colonisation of other planets will happen? Why do you think Musk keeps talking about democratic systems of governance, but does not address the patterns of inequality that arise from colonial expansion?

The problems of govt when you haven't addressed underlying issues is a big part of the book "Red Mars" which I'd imagine he's already read... but hey.

You can imagine about Musk whatever you like. The fact is that Musk has never demonstrated sophisticated understanding of the patterns of exploitation and inequity that ALWAYS follow colonialism.

I think this tweet is a little unfair. Musk is hardly setting himself up as a "leader" of any utopia offworld.
-
Musk absolutely sets himself as a leader by continually talking about space colonisation without addressing any of the sociological, historical and political criticisms that I and many other researchers have argued for many years- decades in the case of postcolonial theorists
-
Musk is a leader in advocating that humans go off world. Because he has the money and influence to do such advocacy. But he is not setting himself up, Jim Jones style, to be the head guy in a future offworld colony. Saying "Humans should do ABC" is not the same as saying "And I

If your continuum of leadership is two White men - Jim Jones and Musk - then that's a bigger problem. Musk spends a lot of time & energy leading & marketing these discussions. Any conversation about colonising other lands without knowledge of history is damaging.

Why not keep fighting for this planet before thinking of colonizing Mars? Planet Earth deserves all our love and respect! It’s our Mother!

Bill Gates, a member of the group you dislike so intensely, has done more to alleviate deep poverty around the world then any group of sociologists ever have. Your criticisms are unfounded and hypocritical.
