The entire concept of race is driven by hatred, a visual proxy for declaring Other and setting in-group/out-group divides. Details:https://twitter.com/themadstone/status/973386852609789952 …

I tend to talk about seeking ethnic diversity (groups defined by nationality or culture) or the need to support people of colour (groups targeted by racism). These are ideas that are clearly-defined, that have roots in heritage & experience, that don't inherently mandate hate.

I tend not to talk about race. It's a poorly-defined concept that requires a framework of hatred to give it meaning. Those can be valuable conversations, but require more nuance & context than I have to approach without reinforcing that framework. It's easy to cause harm.

Race is an important concept. Agree it can seem tricky to unpack. It is socially constructed. It uses ideas about biology to create social hierarchies of inequality. But even though it's socially defined, race is real in its consequences. Hope this helps: https://othersociologist.com/sociology-of-race/#race …

I end up feeling like a kid watching a chef: know enough to recognize the stove is hot, not skilled enough to use a double boiler to melt chocolate. Lots of watching quietly, and attempting is best done carefully, with lots of prep, & preferably under supervision!
