“We believe that it is premature to claim that sexual harassment has caused the uneven gender ratio in STEM.” There are several backwards and bizarre points made in this piece but I think this might top it https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/voices/a-different-take-on-sexism-in-science/?utm_content=buffer8a1db&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer …

How are you going to make loose claimed about the rate at which harassment occurs when we know very well that institutions are disincentivized from properly handling harassment claims?

And how on earth are you going to cite the crap Ceci & Williams paper that has been refuted time and again for its crap methodology and call it stand up science. (See

I've read the SciAm piece - by authors who actively support Damore & align with racist, sexist White men of the atheist movement. Sexual harassment isn't the only reason ciswomen & gender minorities leave science, but it is one amongst many that make science careers difficult

Discovering that they have been coerced into a career choice in support of other people's political agendas, and realizing they never had a passion for the subject to start with is a much bigger driver. Admitting this to oneself is a tough pill to swallow, so: harassment claims.

Research shows girls &women are just as talented and interested in science from an early age, even outperforming boys, but teachers, lecturers and other gatekeepers create roadblocks. Harassment is one many unjust reasons why sci careers can be untenable http://blogs.nature.com/soapboxscience/2014/09/04/nature-vs-nurture-girls-and-stem …
