It feels less like moral panic and more like flagrant and cynical exploitation of the politics of fear by Dutton et al, who have looked to the US as inspiration not abomination, KNOWING it could work here, and callously unmoved by the injustice and the risk of grave consequences.

I show in the full article moral panics have been in place since invasion. Don't need to look to the USA. Genocide was the foundation of Australia and the White Australia policy was in place until the 1970s. Hanson has remained popular since the early 1990s.
