i managed a business (admin/office side) for 5 years. That's how i first gained project management experience so i list it right there in my "professional" experience section, underneath all my academic/evaluation experience

Yes, this is excellent! Project management is such an important skill and non-academic experience of this helps tremendously when running research projects in other contexts.

it is, and I wish that I "sold" this at my job interview. I took the perspective that others have said, and didn't think it was relevant. So they assumed I had less experience than I did.
