Grrr this makes me really angry! If you can share this - was it careers advice workers at your university or senior academics/ supervisors or the job advertisers/recruiters saying this? The gall of telling ECR to omit part-time jobs & leadership roles from their CV!

Okay. Here's another question that I will divine I already know the answer to. Do your lecturers ever discuss where to look for work and HOW to apply for jobs in your field? Do they cover career pathways in science both inside and beyond academia?

At Delaware they did. We had a whole seminar on it. Mostly because we were all pre-vet and they realized those who didn't end up going to vet school were getting lost. Not sure outside of the Ag School though.

Not really at Kenyon. You had to depend on your advisor and the only paths really discussed for the most part were graduate school or medical school
