1/3 I was at the Cutaway in #Barangaroo for a @sydney_festival event, #FourThousandFish. This #art installation celebrates Barangaroo, a Cammeraygal fisherwoman who defied colonialists & fought to maintain Aboriginal women's central role as providers. #visualsociologypic.twitter.com/SZXiSElcEi

2/3 Cammeraygal women fished sustainably, only catching what they needed each day. In 1790 British colonists plundered 4,000 salmon in one day. Barangaroo was angered & refused to meet with the British. She fought the displacement of her people.

3/3 "Barangaroo must have observed the way the Whites dealt with Eora men, not women. Living with them, relying on their food, plainly meant dependence on men, White and Black." #FourThousandFish is on every evening from 7pm at Barangaroo Reserve throughout the @sydney_festivalpic.twitter.com/8DPClnedOM
