Being involved with several gender equity programs for yrs, through work & volunteering, I see much profiteering from predatory orgs. 1/

Be careful in what you or your organisation support. Don't accept invites to speak at gender equity event that's prohibitively expensive. 9/

Check credentials of conference organisers. Are they delivering gender equity event for reputable research or community organisation? 10/
-
They may have a flash brochure, a website & amazing line up of speakers - but are organisers actively committed to equity & diversity? 11/

If you're asked to be a speaker for a legitimate equity org, request typicaly comes from that org, not initialy from conference company. 12/

And as with all conferences, consider that lack of gender AND race balance AND lack of other minority representation is NOT equity. 13/

Gender equity is opportunistic business to some. Conferences are expensive to host, so at least support events by not-for-profit orgs. 14/
