Not that it's ok of anyone, but this would NEVER play out like this for #POC. To brazenly argue *in public* they should be allowed to harass

That's White male privilege - WM just keep flouting law & policies, but their webpages say "Come study/work with me, PhD students!"

If it wasn't WM, of course the outrage would be deafening. But being WM, all are silent, except WoC and even those would fear retribution

Indeed! And WW also indulging them by responding over & over - as if their sexism needs hand holding. Would they do this for Others? Nope.

It's the idea that WM deserve respect and deference even when they say/do unlawful/unethical things.

FWIW I emailed his uni's VP of HR and chair about his statements. So disgusting.

She didn't generalize. Everyone who has recently been defending harassing behavior in academia IS a WM. This is simple fact

It's such a time sink when someone deploys the "not all [fill in group] people" technique.

I feel it's a time sink whenever someone deploys the "all people' technique. (And discriminating, which ironically is the problem at hand.)
