Aidan Budd 🐈 added,
I often struggle to navigate different expectations of different Twitter users - several parts of this article address some of these.
It is tricky; isn't it? Many people use Twitter to different aims. The key thing is if one wants to not be unfollowed is to RT others!
:) I sometime wish there was an option, that if taken up was very visible to others, where one could describe the kind of interactions+
one was interested in (e.g. "Please don't @ me unless I know you" or "Please try to avoid Replying-All to me") so we could fit our+
behaviour better to what others would appreciate - and also to less often get a negative response to an intended-positive interaction.
I can understand it can be difficult to work these things out! But it's the same as offline; different cultures have different norms...
... People don't come with instruction manuals.
When you encounter someone reacting in away you find negative, consider from their shoes
They likely live, & interact online with, people who share their rules. But they also deal with ppl who don't respect this, incl on Twitter
If you read widely enough, and see how others interact with one another, you figure out the rules. If you get it wrong, apologise. Do better
If you've ever felt uncomfortable getting something wrong on Twitter, it's much worse for the other person pointing out. You learn & grow!
