Structural inequality isn't about empathy; it's about institutions & power. Subject to multiple inequities WOC cannot sustain this view.

Why do White women do this? Because they see gender as White women, but race is for Others. They don't see race affects gender & vice versa
-
White women notice gender inequality when there are no White women. They are satisfied about gender balance when it's 50/50 cis WW & WM
-
A panel with 50/50 cis WM & WW is both a gender equity AND race equity issue. White women don't notice. See here:https://twitter.com/i/moments/877216881660362752 …

As to your original question, consider how White women in sci react when White men exclude women from analyses, conversations, awards, etc.
-
White women don't say: "Wait a minute, let's hear from the White man. Maybe he didn't want to step on women's toes!" They don't excuse this
-
Instead, White women rally together. They say unequivocally "This is exclusion. It's unfair. We won't stand for this. How will you fix it?"
-
This won't happen here. There'll be excuses. Because White women are eager to excuse other White women when they exclude WOC. That's not ok.
-
Just as White women don't allow "good intentions" and ignorance to be excuses for gender inequity, the same respect for WOC must be shown.
-
White women have always erased WOC from the picture in science, academia & society. It happens in articles like this; in awards; in policy
