At breakfast this morning, a few folks were complaining that 100% of the REU students at the field station are URM students.

I don't want to drag on these folks. This is a common remark from those who I think are genuinely interested in diversity/inclusion.
Cannot be "genuinely interested in diversity/inclusion" & think/voice these opinions. Big diff btw lip service to equity & active support.

I do think that some folks can be concerned but have a lot to learn. I'm not asking anybody to spend their effort to teach me otherwise.

Think you're saying you're entitled to your opinion? If so, White people's desire to believe in good intentions of WP is big part of prob.

White people do not have true commitment if they aren't willing to sacrifice. That's why you see the resentment you go on to describe.

Best not to frame this as "they do believe in E&D" or "they mean well" or "they don't know better" because it perpetuates the problem.
