2/2 Official multiculturalism policy was called the White Australia policy. Racism remains rampant. USA is false benchmark of "bad" racism

Agree - we just own it more than other settler colonialists states since it is embedded in our constitution.....

Australia is unusual; don't have Treaty with Indigenous people. Don't talk about, nor collect data on, race. But race has impact (of course)

That is interesting, especially round data collection. Lack of data allows systems to maintain themselves

1/2 Yes! It limits anti-racism consciousness. Census data are on ancestry. People concede *cultural* differences; "can't we just get along?"

2/2 Ancestry maintains Anglo-Celtic dominance ("we're 6th generation") which then subsumes Indigenous sovereignty & obscures impact of race.
