For academics/activists who regularly write on anti-racism, gender equity, LGBTQIA issues or similar, reporting hundreds of tweets is taxing

-
Twitter then takes days to review & most of the time will deem racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic tweet to be OKAY. Whose safety counts?
-
Twitter is designed to discourage informed discussion on diversity & social justice by allowing anon accounts, & normalising hate speech.
-
We all have our own ways of managing online abuse, so no need to @ me. Point is that it's NOT accepable to tolerate online harassment.
-
Abuse should NEVER be part & parcel of educating the public, organising social movements, serving our community, or engaging with others.
-
The argument of an "echo chamber" is only ever made by people from majority groups, whose voices already heard, who are well represented.
-
I've said this many times: I do not accept that harassment is the price for public engagement. Abuse should not be tolerated as the norm.

Yes! Why I only block some types of abuse (extremely bad). Twitter seldom takes action so that's another discouraging dynamic.

And even then they barely take care of it
-
Exactly. It's not worth it 99% of the time, but I do make an effort when it's really extreme, as it has been tonight.
-
I've been reading your threads and I sincerely admire you, and your approach to issues.

Thank you!
