Using a thread about racism by a #POC to share your personal opinions & feelings as a White person is not helpful.
-
-
-
Centring your experience as a White person in a discussion about racism is draining as it shifts the focus from
#POC. This reproduces racism -
Comparing something that happened to you as a White person erases the context of racial oppression experienced by
#POC. Don't do this. -
Asking to be educated, above & beyond what a
#POC has already offered, is an exercise in White privilege. This amplifies inequality. Stop. -
Generally speaking, at any given time of day, you can assume that
#POC have experienced several instances of racism. Don't add to this load. -
White people saying, "Show me more evidence/ that can't be right/ I haven't noticed this/ I didn't meant it that way," is more racism.

-
Stop expecting
#POC to validate your sense that racism isn't that bad/ is getting better/ is just some bad apples. Racism is structural. -
#WOC have gender & racial inequality to deal with online AND offline; plus for other minorities further discrimination. It's exhausting. -
Educating White on anti-racism is tough. Don't add to the emotional labour of
#POC. Help but please don't hinder us with your expectations. - 2 more replies

Not all countries have the same issues as the US with race relations. I do agree with what you say but not fair to simply say white people
-
-
Thanks for correcting me on that. Sadly I am not sure how race relations are in Aus ?
-
I could be wrong, but I think what she was tweeting about tells us her experience as a POC & woman in Australia.
-
Yes & I was in error. I just see so many US tweets about race & being from Canada I like to point out all places aren't the same
-
Yes, though, hopefully you are implying that there isn't racism in Canada. I've seen plenty of POC and WOC from Canada talking about it.
-
U will find it where ever u find ignorant people That said it's nothing at all like the US and many of our cities are majority multicultural
-
The indigenous folks I know in Canada have much to say about the racism they experience, as to the people of color I know.

I wish I could get my friends to understand this

My only point was that some countries , societies are battling racism better then others . We can learn from one another to win the fight
-
Your point seems to wander, and started with questioning the experience of a woman of color.
-
Actually no it didn't & no they don't . You seem to be doing exactly what you claim to be against , generalizations & trying to be superior
-
You've done everything you can, for days, to substitute your opinion for that of a person of color who shared her own experience.
