If White people can't handle #POC talking about racism, it doesn't matter what words we use; the issue you have is that we're talking at all
-

It's striking; whether it's my blog, my Twitter, or when I'm interviewed - people say they want "positive" language on racism. Why?
-
There's NO "nice" way to talk about racism. Racism is structural; it envelops us; ruins life chances of
#POC. Nothing "positive" about it. -
White people who imagine there's a "rational" way they deem acceptable to hear discussion of racism is them saying they want to dictate
#POC -
As
#POC point out all day, every day, White people put more effort into policing discussion of race so they don't have to work on themselves -
If you take offence at how
#POC talk about racism, but actively dismantling racism is not your concern, then you're part of the problem. -
White people don't get to subjectively define racism; don't get to silence
#POC's suffering & experiences of race. That's White supremacy. - 3 more replies

You're a White person on a thread about
#POC talking about wanting to be personally educated by POC whilst you talk of being "marginalised." -
You might reflect over why you feel the need to centre your Whiteness, on a conversation by a
#WOC about White ppl policing convos of racism

1/ Kim there is so much wrong with your thinking and "advice." "Hostility" is a term White people use to police
#POC's expression. -
2/ You're on thead where I'm discussing how White people characterise tone. Here you go labelling
#POC as "hostile" for responding to racism -
3/ "Returning fire." Your language, which uses metaphors of violence to characterise
#POC's responses to racism, are revealing. -
4/ Do you know how many encounters of racism
#POC experience in a day? It's 3.30pm local time & this isn't my first. It won't be my last. -
5/ You've been following me for a long time Kim, & know much free service I give to STEM & to your discipline. This is disappointing.
-
6/ Hope you reflect on this exchange & your unexplored assumptions about racism & the entitlement White people feel in framing POC responses

1/ Hi. It's not at all about being rude. It's that regardless of what POC say, whether it's academic discussion or sharing personal story..
-
2/ or doing our job in equity & diversity, White people make up shifting rules about what they consider to be "civil" way to discuss racism.
