Found out after she was hired that "3 wks" meant "uni is closed two weeks a year and you still get paid" and only 5 actual days of PTO.

Faculty colleagues seriously told, some yrs ago that reason leave policy was so bad was they should just plan pregnancies for summer break

We have automatic tenure rollback for parental upon birth/adoption of child but many are afraid to take it.

What a loss of investment. Give parents leave. Put in place keep-in-touch programs. Give extra support like an RA to keep up grants/pubs.

I'd wager that if there were free childcare on campus for faculty and paid parent leave, productivity would increase as would morale.
