What race theorists discuss as whiteness, or how White people perpetuate racism: "I’ve become less interested in the notion of being White"
-
-
-
"So I think of myself just as a person." White people, especially in AUS where we rarely address race, distance themselves from racism
-
"The majority of Australians as they search for a way of being neither Black nor White but of sharing a common humanity." Only WP think this
-
Race theorists & commentators who are AUS
#POC show how White AUS have little understanding of racism here but are shocked by USA examples -
As a sociologist of colour for example, I'm asked by White people (academics, media) to comment on racism in discussions led by White ppl...
-
... and those same White people jump into a discussion about racism without a definition of its structural basis & broader social context...
-
...so that means conversation I'm brought into starts with presumption that racism is just "some bad apples" excusing White society as whole
-
When moderators/speakers ask
#POC to comment on racism, they do so without thinking that they should consider their place in race & racism -
This shows how entire discussion on race and racism is framed through Whiteness; it's not meant to disrupt social order for White AUS.

It's also the fact that White people only want to think about racism if it's "positive." "Most Aussies believe in diversity!" Ahhh nope.

Yep. Also difference between multiculturalism (all cultures have equity) & cosmopolitanism (I like "Asian" food but they need to assimilate)
