So @contextsmag is deeply committed to hard sell of Dolezal. They flog their piece again in connection to Tuvel https://www.facebook.com/contextsmag/posts/10155324430079732 …

Why does
#sociology publication feverishly publicise 2 articles that reproduce racism & transphobia but dismiss other POC race scholars? -
NYT defence of Tuvel which
@contextsmag promotes is by a White cisgender man who cries academic freedom whilst dismissing minority scholars. -
"Transracialism" posts [Dolezal in
@contextsmag; Tuvel in Hypatia; Hypatia & Contexts editors & NYT defence of Tuvel] have 1 thing in common -
They ignore the scholarship of
#POC & transgender researchers who have been working to dismantle White supremacy & transphobia in academia. -
Cisgender men & White women feminists swing the "academic freedom" argument like a club, aiming to squash minority scholars as "insidious"
-
Many
#POC anti-racism & transgender scholars have pointed out probs of "transracialism" - poorly theorised concept lacking empirical rigour -
In
#sociology we must see that groups least likely to succeed in our field -#POC & transgender people - are targets of bad science. -
So while sociologists with race & gender privilege argue academic freedom (for some), this gatekeeping supports inequality in our discipline
-
Bad
#sociology should never be tolerated. Informed critique by minority sociologists, whether in class, on campus or social media, is valid.

Everyone reads what they want. But people who actually read what we publish learn a lot, e.g. about BLM http://https://www.google.com/search?q=site:contexts.org+%22black+lives+matter%22 …

Considered, not dismissed. Happy to consider submissions in response for the magazine, but have received none.

You keep saying this
@familyunequal as if POC & transgender studies experts need to publish with you before you engage with our expertise -
That's a power play and one that carries history of abuse given your status as cisgender White man: "come and be judged by me on my grounds"
-
1/ Your magazine published a piece that you know
#POC & transgender people are opposed to for lack of critical thinking. Then you & co-ed -
2/ use your publication to pat yourselves on the back for publishing the article plus you dismiss minority sociologists' critique same time
-
3/ Your publication continues to promote the article in connection to other pieces that minorities have similarly critiqued. Why should we

No follow up to the piece we solicited and published? Sorry, did we miss something there?
-

We would of course be happy to consider publishing substantive responses to this, but we have yet received none.
