It was also like she was ashamed? I didn't rewatch the movies this time but seem to remember it happened while Jane was away at an art camp

Yeah it was. And the woman who came onto her ignored her boundaries completely and talked to her as if Jane owed her intimacy.

Then the next day when Jane went to her wanting to talk about her sexuality the other woman ditched her and went off with the artist guy :(

The whole thing broke my inner teenager's questioning heart

😔 Definitely a let down. Show broke ground in many ways & spoke to many young women for lots of reasons. But it was lacking esp on reflection

Yeah. It was so groundbreaking and important. I can't ignore its downfalls obviously but Daria will always be a problematic fave.

YES. Same. I still love it but have many issues. Daria & Jane are still one of the best fictional depictions of friendships I enjoy.

Check out this cool article on 20 year anniversary. Not enough reflection on shortcomings of show but interesting http://variety.com/2017/tv/features/mtv-daria-cartoon-20-year-anniversary-1202000114/ …

Just got to the part when the creator said it was written "gender-neutral" so they didn't discuss periods and...yeah...that made me sad.

And yeah let's talk about common teenage experiences but pretend menstruation isn't common enough. Too special interest...

Yeah. While not all girls menstruate, this excuse is, "we don't want to eek out boys." 😑

Exactly this. Are there any Daria-like shows now for teens that address the gaps we've talked about?

Hmmm good question! Live scripted- maybe Degrassi (which was also a fave of mine growing up). I don't watch the new one. Cartoon? Don't know
