Today in rubbish scientific sexism: "Sexy women tempt men into immorality." https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/attraction-evolved/201704/femme-fatale-sexy-women-sway-men-do-bad-things … Patriarchy naturalised by evo psych.

Equally valid explanation: (some) (straight) men grift more when they are reminded to treat women as objects. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/attraction-evolved/201704/femme-fatale-sexy-women-sway-men-do-bad-things …

That's exactly the same thing this study has shown, so it's nothing new. Author doesn't have data to support why he is blaming women.

I'd be very concerned about how those "sexy" vs "not-sexy" effect vs control photos are chosen, because of confound semiotics(!)

Exactly! I'd like to see the experiment done with gay men actually, with pics of buff men instead.

Yep. I could see similar outcomes: some men will deceive/cheat. Others will deceive/cheat even more. Because of social norms.

and upon receiving reminders of those norms (e.g. pictures encoded with the semiotics of the straight male gaze) that cheating is amplified

I may be _wrong_ about this -- but the OP's experiments support my hypothesis at least as much as their own.

1/2 As I said yesterday it's not the sexy pictures that produce this outcome.

2/2 Many studies show men more likely to deceive/cheat at tasks in experiments b/c they've been conditioned to think they can get away w/ it

they _do_ attempt to have a control group -- straight men shown pictures of women rated "not sexy". All subjects still straight men.

I raise this because the phenomenon they report is that men in the "sexy pictures" effect group grift MORE than men in the cotnrol group.

I am not disputing (or even surprised by) the result that straight men _in general_ grift more than women & other not-(straight men).
