Did @ScienceMarchDC make clear & seek informed consent from supporters that their contact details would be given to 3rd parties? #marginsci

For a march supposedly about science, lack of understanding of history, ethics & policies is astounding
@ScienceMarchDC.#marginsci -
[1/2] It's especially outrageous given the widespread public condemnation of recent attacks on online privacy by Republicans in US Congress.
-
[2/2] The importance of not sharing personal data without the permission of the people concerned has been emphasized a lot lately.
-
[3/2] Relevant update. March for Science won't be sharing email addresses. Not sure about rest of user data: https://twitter.com/ScienceInsider/status/852573879771987970 … .
-
No - there is no plan to share anything without consent, consistent with our privacy policy.
-
How did that misunderstanding happen?
-
The GMU researchers had asked March for Science organizers to distribute a notice about the surveys to their email & social media lists.
-
Apparently, this got mangled somewhere in reporting.

March that has been hostile to URM
@ScienceMarchDC will be vetting research partners? When it can't enact basic diversity policy!#marginsciThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Researchers using public event/resources (eg. interviewing at march) is ok; but must follow ethical guidelines.

Almost a week before the march &
@ScienceMarchDC has addressed NONE of the concerns on diversity; no proactive action as an org.#marginsci -
I'm especially weirded out by GMI's role in this. Their climate comm program is good and publishes solid social sci research.
-
Yes. Can
@GeorgeMasonU say why it's granted ethics approval to such a study asking for email addresses? https://twitter.com/OtherSociology/status/852391765151813633 …#marginsci
