Love it! We're also fond of the gender politics of disaster films :)
-
I LOVE disaster movies. Grand speeches about why humanity should be saved by White men. No one listens to scientists until it's too late.

-
*especially* if they're women - and if queer, non-white, or not conventionally attractive, expect death within first 20-30 minutes!
-
Nope- POC hardly feature in disaster movies except as background fodder. White women always survive to end b/c they are prize for White men.
-
Yep, plot only requires one surviving woman - or two if there's a daughter involved.

Whole phd to be had on people with disability in apocalyptic fiction
-
Absolutely! Who wants it? Disability and the futuristic imagination would be fascinating material...
-
Yes if written properly - written/directed/starring disabled artists. Post apocalyptic movies super ableist.
-
For a PhD though - great topic, again, if pursued in the right way, with right supervision.
