When #WOC writes science article on diversity don't say "Teach them! Don't increase division." PS I don't work for free for you. #marginscipic.twitter.com/PbTCzuxecq

True story: I was once told literally to ignore a HS teacher making highly inappropriate sexual comments to
14-17 year old girls because “he’s got Aspergers issues, he can’t help it. Don’t upset him, we need him.”
ugh, though misogyny in te autism community is a real problem & autistic men who @OtherSociology
behave inappropriately have been coasting on the "he can't help it" excuse for a long time @OtherSociology
autistic women have been working to dismantle the "he can't help it" & "he just doesn't understand" @OtherSociology
but I've also had ppl excuse men treating me badly with "well he might be autistic" @OtherSociology
it's become a catchall scapegoat to excuse socially awkward men @OtherSociology
Yes to all this! It is an ableist discourse to emphasise autism as an explanation or "excuse" for harassment. @crippledscholar @reina_sabah
I'd put more money on an over abundance of white men who are awkward bc they never have to deal with anyone who isn't
This is beautiful! Homophily amongst White men leads to poor social skills.
I'm diagnosed w/ autism. I like the social justice movement because it gives me concrete etiquette rules.
E.g. When people share their experiences, don't debate the details. They know more about it than I do.
Don't ask questions about things you could Google. Don't get mad about feedback.
I like the new etiquette rules. They seem more logical and fair than the common ones.
If you can get a doctorate, you can master the basics of being courteous to marginalized people.
