I was invited to a USA conference. I applied for visa waiver program as an Australian citizen. Should be automatically approved but wasn't.

I've not travelled to the nations on the unlawful ban list. My visa application was just before the ban & there's a stay regardless.

Not enough such support from the astronomy professional societies, unfortunately.

That's a shame. My story is small potatoes - but for other researchers conferences are pivotal to career building.
