Angry White men on my 'Joker' post keep saying 'It's just a movie!,' but defend the film with reverence
'Your PhD is worthless. You're stupid! Sociology is not a science.' Proceeds to reinforce White male dominance
'You're racist and sexist!' Makes sexist & racist comments
Most say 'Joker is not an anti-hero!' & 'Stop making it political,' followed by:
'He was abused & stood up for himself!'
'He was driven to madness/ violence!'
This is 'identitarianism' (not a thing BTW)
'Working class White men are radically re-evaluating "equity"'
The other big gripe is that they think I've said all White men are bad, when this doesn't appear anywhere in what I've written. Similar comments:
'The film doesn't even mention race!'
'Stop pushing your race/feminist agenda'
And my fave: 'You're the reason Joker exists!'
'He [The Joker] is a modern radicalised leftist'
'White men BUILT the society as it is.. show a little respect' (but it's just a film, alright?)
'Aren't a large % of criminals... people who have been moulded by abuse' (not really)
'Woke Twitter just hates men in 2019'
There's around 200 comments, all by White men, and a couple by White men pretending to not be White men. They write with pseudonyms. Your thread was so extremely on point and informative. It called out the men who wanted to normalize Joker into their rhetoric (which has been a huge change up from the status quo) and for that, they hate you. Hang in there and continue to be awesome!
