It doesn't excuse any one, you just want to see it that way. Nobody was cheering, at least not in my country. Everyone was quiet in amazement looking at the great performance Phoenix gave in this film.
“Unburden Arthur as his carer” Uhhhhh....did you not watch the movie at all? He was her carer. He literally had to make her breakfast and give her her medicine and bath her...
