Who is his advisor? As much as he is at fault for all of this, who in the Madison dept is putting their stamp of approval on him? Who is his dissertation committee and why are they condoning this?

There is a lot of back story coming out of the dept. It looks like they were very critical and he is also no longer a student....
-
Thanks Sameena, good to know.

According to his bio, he's apparently on his way to Harvard history department. He's written a hit piece on their student body, so there's reason for concern there too. By his own words, his teaching methods are concerning for Black and minority students; he thinks racism is ok
-
It seems he is 'only' going there as a "visiting fellow" (https://wisc.academia.edu/AdamSzetela ); I have also read this, there is indeed be a big, big problem:https://progressive.org/dispatches/are-campus-activists-missing-the-point-Szetela-190626/ …
-
Hard to say what this might involve (teach, research, or both). Whatever the case, Harvard will give him prestige. He's moving disciplines rapidly - cultural studies to sociology now history, all within a PhD.Many opportunities, but this paper evidences his scholarship is lacking

This was awesome!! You put that boy in his place!! I think we should start petition for the journal to withdraw and retract that piece of nonsensical writing.
-
Thanks for reading. I'm hoping the journal makes a real commitment to meaningful change. An all-White editorial team is bad in any discipline, but perhaps especially critical for Black, Indigenous and other racial minorities to shape *the* journal on ethnic & racial studies

Yes there’s more discussion happening among editors now about the response
-
The journal's response is contradictory - they say the article is not a research article, yet it was retreated with same rigour of a research article. AND it went through major revisions. But no one picked up major theoretical gaps. It's nothing more than a hit piece.
-
The journal has provided one of the most pathetic, 'Kellyanne-Conway' justifications I have seen.
-
The response is disingenuous. They have not acknowledged their role in contributing to racism. Deeply unethical. The decision to publish White supremacy shows the editorial team do not understand racial oppression. This response by ERS is profoundly out of step with anti-racism.

How are people with such appalling records granted prestigious roles in academia, other than via racism, nepotism or other meritless processes. Alejandro Toledo was, until his recent arrest, a Fellow at Stanford, where he went to evade corruption charges as ex-President of Peru.
