Companies often give social media/ #SciComm roles to junior staff because they think it's necessary but trivial "young people's stuff" or "Just marketing." It isn't. It requires real expertise that should be remunerated.

An internship isn't volunteering. If it doesn't lead to course credit, or it doesn't directly benefit the learner, then the candidate should be paid for the work. The market should value the knowledge of junior scholars because it's fair & it helps us build a better workforce.
