Australia was one of the first nations to adopt minstrels (started in Italy, then USA, and then AUS). It's NEVER been okay. The fact that non-Indigenous Australians weren't listening to Aboriginal people over the decades reflects how dearly White supremacist fantasies are held
While Twitter & new media amplify the number of voices, critiques of blackface & yellowface aren't new. Asian people did find Lilleys' characters offensive. White people simply weren't listening
