The influencers I follow are people of colour; I've just mentioned a few who are Latina. The problem with making fun of influencers is that people think it's normal to be famous through traditional industries that are built to exclude women of colour. They make few exceptions
Influencers make all their own content. They script, film, edit and promote all themselves. They look after their followers. They work hard to get brands to notice women of colour have unique needs and interests. They keep companies & audiences accountable for exclusion.
When people make fun of influencers, as if this is frivolous or undeserved, what they're saying is that they see their interests satisfied by mainstream industries. It's fine if this doesn't interest you, but consider why you might think it's ok to exclude & sideline minorities.
