This kinda reminds me how there is this massive body of online literature in the form of blogs and editorial which critically discuss and analyse Japanese animation in a manner which is rarely found in academic publications

But having read both forms it seems as the discussion of Japanese animation in academic text vs blogs and online editorial seems like as if they come from two entirely different world in terms of what they chose to focus on and what context they provide (or not) to their topic

Of course they're different, Tommy, they are produced by, speak to, and are concerned with different audiences.

By what chose to focus on, I meant entirely different shows or movies, like some work that gets repeatedly written about in academic text, while there are other works which can offer fresh insight which gets ignored, even though they can be analysed through an academic lens

Gosh, Tommy, the same arguments can be made about every single topic, including your expertise in science, & my areas of expertise in sociology I'm sure whatever you specifically have your mind on has been written about by academics, if not in English, likely in other languages
