I left Catholicism about 15 years ago because I could not stomach the rampant abuse of children. Current events make me wonder how anyone with a conscience can stay in the church, let alone defend this vile institution.

It's scary to be sure and institutional responses continue to be problematic. The Vatican refused to take Pell's title and status, even after the conviction and the Church in AUS refuses to remove statue in his honour.
