Murder-suicide, like other forms of domestic and family violence and intimate partner violence, is gendered. Men kill their kids & then die by suicide to hurt their partners. They do this because they ultimately see kids and women as their property & refuse to let them leave.

The term "murder-suicide" instantly softens the crime - draws compassion, oh poor man, must have been desperate. The suicide is an after-fact to not have to face punishment for homicide. It is homicide only, not murder-suicide, suicide is the escape clause.
