You're absolutely right. Racist virtue signalling. They learned how to say everything from Tchaikovsky to Schwarzenegger. Somehow this is culturally neutral. But can't say Aboriginal or migrant names - instead this is 'culture wars.' The logic of the racist mind is spectacular.

No one cares if you have to ask multiple times how to pronounce names or if you need to keep practising. It's the fact that some people won't even try - and think it's their right to do it wrong. This media framing on 'manners' is a smokescreen. It's basic respect of diversity

I work with people in countries all over the world and the first thing I say is "If I mispronounce your name, please correct me." It's not hard to show a basic level of respect to people.
