It makes me want to scream! Christians in the US behave the same way, screaming “persecution” when they are the ones in government doing horrible things to those who truly are in mortal danger.

It's an attempt to recast White people as ideal "refugees." Australian politicians have been trying to make "White South African farmers" into a persecuted group.
We have an awful immigration history nationally referred to as the White Australia policy. Only ended in mid-70s
