Definitely see the need to be cognizant of the things you mention, but also think this is a way to reach a wide audience to counter misinformation. A TikTok vid w/millions of views reaches way more people than a publication in NEJM, JAMA, etc.

Yes, rly want to quantify that effect--how impactful is a single viral medtweet? How does it compare to the easier amplification of misinformation by same platforms? Should we better target efforts in pressuring regulations of platforms w/ re to misinformation like anti-vax?

Not that I see myself as particularly smart, but from an ethics perspective I think TikTok is interesting only insofar as it's not really novel at all. There are aesthetic differences perhaps but mostly it's the same old questions about public health and professionalism.

Every platform where we've felt this tension in the past (TV, blogs, etc) has properties that incentivize medical content and challenge commitment to professionalism in different ways, e.g. dramatic before/afters on TV or, now, very short videos w/ expectation of humor on TikTok.
