This is shameful. America shouldn’t have a wealth test for admission. It’s a place where millions of people are descendants of immigrants who came w nothing & made a life. The American Dream isn’t a private club with a cover charge - it’s the possibility of remaking your future.https://twitter.com/GregStohr/status/1221861932929601536 …

The Statue of Liberty didn't come with those words. It was a poem added sometime later.
-
Agreed. And a poem is not the same as policy.

They are still there but at the time they were chiseled in we didn't have this thing called a welfare system. Do you want to get rid of that?

Those words were NEVER US policy. Ever. Had to have proof of employment or a sponsor plus pass medical examin & not be diseased or infirm-or sent back. Young nation wanted contributors not anyone dependent on working Americans. Just facts.
-
Wouldn’t it be nice if liberals actually cared about facts?

No one cares about where there tax dollars are being spent until it’s used to actually help someone. People barely even know what their local dollars are being spent on and how it’s allocated yet will have an issue once you hear it’s going towards low income families. .
-
That's not true. Welfare system is supposed to be a hand up not a lifestyle.

When our ancestors immigrated here they were welcomed at Ellis Island.pic.twitter.com/vR4N6v5rUa

Ellis Island was a hospital. Officers would stand at the top of the long stairs & watch for people who struggled to make it to the top. They were give mental/physical exams. If they were deemed too weak or poor to contribute they were sent back.
