Couldn’t get away with this if it was any other race but here in America it is ok to marginalize, dehumanize, and mock indigenous people. I am Anishinaabe and believe this absolutely is unacceptable. #notmymascot

Thank you Justin. For some odd reason it’s still okay for ppl to mock us. You’re right. Any other race it’s not acceptable. They need somebody to kick, to throw into the garage, to bash and torture. And
#Natives get to be that scapegoat.

My big brother, who is diné, loves this team. I want to be excited for things he is excited for, but I don’t know how to be when it comes to this team and mascot. I should just ask him.

This is more common than you know. What happens is that we latch onto any public symbols where we find potential representatives of ourselves, even if they’re false. The worst feeling is to be irrelevant. Many Natives love sports and start to attempt to appropriate the symbols.

breaks my heart to see them wear headdress when they have no idea how they are earned by 1st Nation. I share that a lot on my pages.

It’s terrible way to treat human beings. There is so much depth to our regalia and for it to be used like costumes in some sadistic ritual. Makes me wonder who is really uncivilized.
