So lucky! My favorite part of Kyoto was walking the trails around Kifune and Kurama. There's a temple on top of the mountain between them.

Oh yes, I want to do that! When I was there last year all of that was closed down because of the typhoon, hopefully it’s not now!

As mentioned in another reply, Philosopher's Path is super lovely. There is also a similar, slightly more urban path on the east side of the city that follows a canal. In my experience, you can't go wrong following a river in Kyoto.

Oh, we just followed that canal path this morning to Bishamondo temple! It was so lovely:)

When going up Inari Taicha (big tourist spot) mid way climbing the steps there will be a branching path to the right away from the steps. Take it! No one goes there and it's a beautiful trek that leads back to the main tourist path. So you miss nothing.

I don't know if this one is "touristy" or not (I didn't see any tourists there) but there's something called the "Philosopher's Path". Beautiful during autumn for a walk or cycle.

Definitely the national museum of modern art! There's a outstanding exhibition in summer when I visited called "dress code: are you playing fashion" Not sure if it's still available but trust me, that was amazing!pic.twitter.com/DFWQ2Tjzu4
