    Turtle work is picking up despite the recent cold weather. This week, Director of Longleaf Savannas, Houston Chandler, and his crew caught five species of turtles while trapping at two sites in Georgia and one in Florida.

    It has been a very productive season of seeing many Eastern Indigo Snakes in the field. It was great to see both new snakes as well as familiar faces from prior survey seasons. Here are a few photos of some of these incredible snakes that we were fortunate enough to see.

    Highlight of 2018 so far! I found this juvenile Florida Pine Snake (Pituophis melanoleucus mugitus) basking on a tortoise burrow apron in some recently burned sandhill habitat.

    Hanover High School from Hanover, NH is visiting us for their March Intensive. The students will be with us until Friday, staying on the preserve and joining us on things like our Spotted Turtle surveys and observing our land management team apply prescribed fire.
