Rhode island is made without the heavy cream / Milk. It’s more like clam stew.
There's a restaurant in California that sells "Rhode Island" clam chowder and I was born, raised, and lived there for 22 years and have no idea how that differs from New England Clam Chowder, or Manhattan Clam... (eww), which said restaurant also had.

Googling it looks like it's potato soup w/a shitload of clams which sounds good but yeah, not something I heard about when I lived on that coast.

In Rhode Island? Where? Lol. New England Clam Chowder is New England Clam Chowder. No substitutes. I'm pretty sure the people making this shit up are not actually from Rhode Island.
